DISCERNING LOVE FOR GOD’S GLORYSharon Riekenberg March 20, 2018
Philippians 1:9-11
And this / pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and
all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order
to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;
11 Having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus
Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
I. Abounding Love
a) Knowledge: Facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. Synonyms: understanding, awareness, cognizance
b) Discernment: As a simple definition, discernment is nothing more than the ability to decide between truth and error, right and wrong. The ability to think with discernment is synonymous with an ability to think biblically.

> We want to pray for one another to have this moral discernment!
> We want to pray for one another that we abstain from worldly
thinking and pursuits; that we do not behave foolishly, as the
unsaved do apart from God and His Word.
2 Peter 1:3
II. Approve the things that are excellent!
1 Cor. 12:31b...And / show you a still more excellent way.
> We must pray for one another that we carry out our
responsibilities in all areas in an excellent manner.
To be sincere.
a. To be transparent.
b. To be without offense.
> We must pray for one another that we lead transparent lives, that
we will not be an offense to anyone.
iv. To be blameless.
II Cor. 5:10 judgment seat of Christ
> We must pray for one another that we would be blameless in all
our interactions, that we would be a testimony of God’s grace in
a life.
> We must pray for one another that we will rightly acknowledge
our failures and then step out with renewed faith that God will
undergird the necessary corrections.
v. Filled with the fruit of righteousness.
“Righteousness is the fruit; the fruit is righteousness!”

Col. 1:9, 10 walk.......to please Him.....bear fruit.....increase
knowledge
> We must pray for one another for strength and perseverance, for
the Spirit’s guidance and intervention in prayer when we cannot
express our needs to the Lord.
John 15:4, 5 Abide in Me, and i in you....
